Wesley Clark Warns of Impending Danger of Trump Presidency at G7
Retired US Army General Wesley Clark, the former Supreme Allied Commander Europe of NATO, expressed to Newsmax on Wednesday that there is a looming “threat” of a second Trump Administration over the upcoming Group of 7 summit.
President Joe Biden traveled to Italy this week for the G7 summit with the leaders of Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the Italian Prime Minister.
During an interview on “Newsline,” Clark highlighted the concerns some European leaders may have about the politics towards NATO under a potential return of former President Donald Trump to the White House.
Clark mentioned that Trump had attempted to create obstacles for NATO during his presidency and had pushed for increased spending. However, Clark noted that Trump’s recent comments about NATO nations not meeting spending requirements could be detrimental to a unified NATO.
The general emphasized the importance of commitment in an alliance and stated that being transactional in alliances is unsustainable and could threaten the survival of the alliance.
Clark warned that world leaders at the G7 summit will be evaluating commitments and exploring ways to strengthen military production facilities to counter Russian threats.
