West Virginia School Board Prohibits Female Students Who Demonstrated Against Transgender Athlete

Reports indicate that five middle school girls who organized a protest and refused to compete against a transgender athlete have been banned from future events.

In response, West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey has filed a lawsuit in support of the girls, as first reported by West Virginia Watch.

“Their actions at the earlier track meet were not disruptive or aggrandizing,” Morrisey wrote in the amicus brief filed on April 26. “They were the quiet demonstration of the student-athletes’ evident unhappiness with the competitive consequences of a federal appellate court’s decision.”

Four of the five students, through their parents, are named in the suit against the Harrison County Board of Education.

“I will do everything in my power to defend these brave young girls,” Morrisey stated on Monday. “This is just wrong. We must stand for what’s right and oppose these radical trans policies.”

Earlier this month, several members of the Lincoln Middle School track and field team protested by “stepping out” when their names were called to compete in an event.

A video posted online shows the five girls watching the transgender athlete participating in the shot put competition.

The protest occurred shortly after a federal appeals court ruled in favor of a transgender teenager in a case against West Virginia regarding the state’s law on biological boys competing in girls’ sports.

Women’s sports advocate Riley Gaines expressed her discontent with the school board’s decision.

“Instead of excluding the transgender athlete from girls’ sports, they opted to ban the girls involved,” Gaines stated. “It’s unbelievable. Legal action should be taken against them.”
