Whatley from RNC discusses contingency plans with Newsmax in case Trump is incarcerated

The Republican National Committee is making contingency plans in case former President Donald Trump is sentenced to jail before the national convention in Milwaukee, but RNC Chair Michael Whatley confirmed on Newsmax that Trump will still be the nominee.

“I’m heading to Milwaukee this week for discussions,” Whatley told Newsmax’s “Wake Up America.” “We anticipate Trump will be there to accept the nomination, and if not, we’ll adjust our plans accordingly.”

Whatley assured that Trump will be the nominee and become the 47th president, despite a sentencing date of July 11 in New York City for his conviction on 34 felony counts.

Regarding the convention, Whatley mentioned Trump’s vision for the country and the importance of the event.

He declined to discuss specific contingency plans but emphasized the focus on showcasing Trump’s agenda for America during the convention.

Whatley also addressed the possibility of Trump being incarcerated and mentioned the option of pre-recording a speech for the convention.

On the fundraising front, Whatley noted the $141 million raised by the Trump campaign in May, with a significant number of new donors contributing an average of $70 each.

He emphasized the organic enthusiasm for Trump among supporters and the campaign’s focus on voter turnout and ballot protection.

As for Politico’s report on plans for the 2024 Democratic National Convention, Whatley criticized their strategy of keeping Biden out of public view.
