Whatley from RNC speaks to Newsmax about plans in case Trump is jailed

The Republican National Committee is currently developing contingency plans in case former President Donald Trump is sentenced to jail just days before the national convention in Milwaukee. However, RNC Chairman Michael Whatley assured on Newsmax Tuesday that regardless of the outcome, Trump will be the nominee. 

Whatley stated, “I’m actually headed to Milwaukee this week for a series of conversations. We anticipate that Donald Trump will be able to accept the nomination in Milwaukee. If not, we will be prepared to make any necessary contingency plans.”

He emphasized that ultimately, Trump will be the nominee and will become the 47th president of the United States.

Trump’s sentencing date is slated for July 11 following his recent conviction in New York City on 34 felony counts. Whatley refrained from commenting on the specific contingency plans but confirmed that the convention will be a platform for Trump to unveil his vision for the nation.

In preparation for any scenario, including Trump being incarcerated, Whatley mentioned the possibility of a pre-recorded speech by Trump that could be played during the convention.

Regarding the Democratic National Convention, Whatley criticized President Joe Biden’s advisers for opting for a hybrid production, suggesting that they aim to keep Biden out of the limelight. He also highlighted the success of the Trump campaign’s fundraising efforts in May, noting the enthusiasm among supporters.
