Whatley from RNC Tells Newsmax: Confident Trump Will Attend Milwaukee Event, but Prepared for Contingencies
The Republican National Committee is prepared with a contingency plan, but they anticipate former President Donald Trump will be in Milwaukee from July 15-18 to accept the presidential nomination, according to RNC Chair Michael Whatley in an interview with Newsmax on Tuesday.
“We have plans in place for every scenario, but we are confident he will be in Milwaukee to accept the nomination, and we are looking forward to it,” Whatley stated on “Wake Up America.” “The construction on the arena is progressing well, and it will be a great opportunity for us to unveil his vision for the next four years.”
Although Trump’s ability to travel has not been restricted following his conviction in the New York business records trial, his attendance at the Republican National Convention after Judge Juan Merchan delivers his sentence on July 11 is uncertain.
He was convicted last month on 34 felony counts related to falsifying business records by labeling his $130,000 payment to attorney Michael Cohen as a “legal expense.”
Regarding potential convention speakers, Whatley mentioned that the RNC is organizing a comprehensive four-night event.
“We are excited about the speakers we have lined up and the options available,” he said. “We have a strong bench within the Republican party, and we want to hear from everyday Americans about how President Trump’s agenda has positively impacted their lives across the country.”
Whatley also mentioned reaching out to former President George W. Bush to gauge his interest in attending but noted that Bush has kept a low profile since leaving office.
He emphasized the importance of showcasing real American voices and discussing the impact of President Biden’s tenure on American families during the convention.
