White House Attempts to Address Biden’s Silence on Maui Incident
President Joe Biden faced criticism for his lack of response to the wildfires in Maui, which have resulted in 96 deaths so far. The White House defended Biden, stating that he is “deeply concerned” about the situation. Biden came under fire after giving vague answers to reporters’ questions about the wildfires while on vacation. Many felt that the president was not taking the disaster seriously. Republican Kari Lake criticized Biden, stating that he couldn’t be bothered to care about the devastation in Hawaii while enjoying his vacation in Delaware. In response, the White House emphasized that FEMA personnel have been on the ground in Maui for two days and that the president has been informed about the situation. They assured that Biden will address the issue and that it is deeply concerning to him. However, they did not provide a timeframe for when Biden might address the fires. FEMA administrator Deanna Criswell stated that a Biden visit at this point would disrupt their work on the ground and that the focus should be on assisting the survivors and those who have been impacted by the fires. Biden returned to the White House on Monday.
