President Trump’s new portrait now adorns the Grand Foyer of the White House, while the Obama portrait has been repositioned to replace a portrait of President George W. Bush, which has been moved to a nearby staircase.
The artwork portrays a bloodied Trump raising his fist, surrounded by Secret Service agents, moments after being shot in the head by Thomas Matthew Crooks at a rally last July.
Dan Scavino, the White House deputy chief of staff, shared a comparison photo on X highlighting the recent change.
The White House also released a video showcasing the new artwork, with the caption, “Some new artwork at the White House.”
Trump’s portrait has been placed in a location traditionally reserved for the most recent presidential portrait, though former President Joe Biden currently lacks an official portrait.
This painting is based on the iconic photograph taken by Associated Press photographer Evan Vucci and was created by Marc Lipp, an artist from Florida, per the Associated Press.
Lipp is described in his biography as “a Modern Pop Artist who expresses his passion for art through paintings and sculptures.”
The artwork was donated to the White House by Andrew Pollock via the Blue Gallery in Delray Beach, Florida.
According to CNN, the painting was moved into the West Wing on Tuesday morning and hung up on Friday morning.
GOP representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) expressed her approval of the change with a social media post stating simply, “Much better.”
