Leftist filmmaker Michael Moore published a blog post on Tuesday criticizing President Donald Trump for deporting undocumented immigrants, claiming that the U.S. risks losing future genius scientists who could potentially develop a cure for cancer or avert an asteroid collision.

“Who’s truly being removed by ICE tonight?” Moore questioned in his article titled “Our Muslim Boy Wonder.”

“The child who could have discovered the cure for cancer in 2046? The 9th grade prodigy who might stop the asteroid headed our way in 2032? Should we care?”

Moore contended that deporting illegal aliens is misguided, citing Steve Jobs, the co-founder of Apple Inc., as an example of a successful individual who was the child of a Syrian Muslim immigrant who “may not have been” in the U.S. legally.

Furthermore, Moore criticized the GOP for their alarm over the influx of millions of undocumented immigrants, arguing that the concerns are unwarranted since remarkable figures like Steve Jobs became U.S. citizens through the 14th Amendment, which guarantees birthright citizenship.

“So here we are now, in 2025, with at least 11 million ‘illegal’ migrants roaming this revered nation, driving on our roads, receiving who knows how much free welfare, blankets, Federal surplus cheese, access to 9-1-1, and our public libraries—while the rest of us have to work hard and pay taxes to support all this,” Moore facetiously remarked, poking fun at conservatives.

“And what, might I ask, have we received in return…Nothing,” he continued.

The filmmaker also suggested that Republicans are prejudiced and would have dismissed Steve Jobs as a “nothing-baby.”

“Except… that ‘nothing-baby’ was soon adopted and given an American name — Steve Jobs. Yes, that Steve Jobs,” Moore elaborated.

“This little tale, I hope, will make any bigot pause who constantly rails against the perceived dangers of these ‘filthy, lowlife aliens.’” Moore added, reinforcing his claim that Americans opposing the influx of unvetted foreigners are “bigots.”

“If you have friends or family with uninformed Trump supporters who still shout about constructing a wall or deporting anyone unable to prove their legitimacy here, perhaps you could share the following list of immigrants who somehow made it here and have contributed remarkable advancements for the rest of us. They might realize that the greatness of this country stems from exceptional individuals who shaped it into what it is today.”

In the aftermath of Moore’s blog post, officials from the Trump administration, GOP leaders, and social media users ridiculed his arguments.

“Michael Moore is welcome to visit the quantum computing and particle physics laboratories that MS-13, TdA [Tren de Aragua], and the cartels will now need to establish back in El Salvador, Venezuela, and Mexico,” responded Presidential spokesman Kush Desai.

Desai further remarked that the director’s comments are a “strong contender for the dumbest statement of the year.”

Online users quickly seized the chance to critique Moore’s perspective as well.

“Michael Moore states that ‘Trump might be deporting illegal aliens who could find a cure for cancer or deflect an asteroid.’ The same logic could apply to aborted babies, Michael!” one user commented.

“Michael Moore is anxious about ICE potentially deporting the individual who could discover the cure for cancer. What he should be focused on is the victims and families of those who have been ruthlessly harmed by illegal criminals. The left seriously needs to reassess their priorities!” added Representative Wesley Hunt (R-Texas).

Moreover, the White House issued a direct response to “disgraced ‘filmmaker’ Michael Moore,” asserting that “the only thing more absurd than that statement are the politicians who oppose the deportations.”

The statement highlighted several instances of illegal “cold-blooded criminals” who committed atrocious acts, including: “A Portuguese national convicted for sexual exploitation of a minor — child pornography, apprehended in Philadelphia. A Guatemalan national charged with armed home invasion, kidnapping, intimidation, and assault with a dangerous weapon, apprehended in Rhode Island. A Haitian national charged with three murders, apprehended in North Carolina,” among many others.
