Winsome Sears Tells Newsmax: Virginia’s Trans Student Policies Are ‘Common Sense’
The GOP Lt. Gov. of Virginia, Winsome Sears, stated that the state’s new model policies that restore parental rights in decision-making about their child’s identity should not be controversial. She also mentioned that Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin is addressing four school districts, including Fairfax County Schools, that have announced they will not comply with the new policies. Sears stated that parents must have a say in their children’s lives and that there should be no controversy over this. The Virginia Department of Education updated its model policies to safeguard parents’ rights, promote a safe learning environment for all students, and protect the privacy and dignity of all students. Sears believes that the school districts that are defying these policies are breaking the law.
