Women did not support me in 2016 because I was not perfect, says Hillary Clinton

During the final days of her 2016 presidential campaign, Hillary Clinton revealed that female voters turned away from her because she was perceived as “not perfect,” the former secretary of state disclosed.

Speaking to The New York Times, Clinton shared that women voters abandoned her during the demanding campaign in 2016.

“They left me because they just couldn’t take a risk on me, because as a woman, I’m supposed to be perfect,” Clinton expressed in the interview.

She added, “They were willing to take a risk on [former President Donald] Trump — who had a long list of imperfections — because he was a man, and they could envision a man as president and commander in chief.”

Clinton wasn’t alone in feeling deserted during that time — her allies echoed similar sentiments, as reported by The Hill noted in a September 2016 article.

“Is there a double standard? One hundred percent times 100%,” Tracy Sefl, a Democratic consultant and Clinton supporter, told The Hill at the time. “And God forbid if she coughs.”

Most recently, former GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley faced criticism before suspending her campaign in March — including being called “Dick Cheney in 3-inch heels” by then-candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, as reported.
