On Monday, the U.S. Census Bureau reported a growth of 71 million (or 71,178,087 — 0.89%) from the previous year, projecting that 8.09 billion people will inhabit the Earth as of January 1, 2025.
However, this year’s growth represents a slight decline from 2023, when the Census Bureau recorded an increase of 75 million people.
In January 2025, it is anticipated that there will be “4.2 births and 2.0 deaths” occurring globally every second.
The Census Bureau revealed that the United States experienced a rise of 2.6 million people in 2024, bringing the U.S. population to 341 million on New Year’s Day.
For January 2025, the U.S. is projected to witness one birth every 9 seconds and one death every 9.4 seconds.
The growth of the U.S. population is expected to occur at a rate of one person every 23.2 seconds due to “international migration.” Additionally, the Census Bureau forecasts that this will increase to one person every 21.2 seconds when considering births, deaths, and net foreign migration.
Throughout the 2020s, the U.S. population has grown by over 9.7 million, translating to a 2.9% growth rate. In contrast, the population increased by 7.4% during the 2010s, marking the slowest growth since the 1930s.
The Census Bureau’s Population Clock provides a simulated real-time update of U.S. and world populations.
