Former President Donald Trump is leading the race for the Republican presidential nomination, according to a recent Wall Street Journal poll. His lead over his nearest contender, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, has grown significantly since April. DeSantis’s political fortunes have declined, and he only maintains a 13% support among GOP primary voters. Trump’s dominance remains unchallenged as the primary season unfolds. Some participants in the poll expressed support for DeSantis, believing a change from Trump’s leadership is needed. However, a majority of GOP primary voters prefer Trump, citing his ability to run the country. In a hypothetical rematch between Trump and President Joe Biden, they were evenly matched. The survey was conducted among 600 GOP voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points.
