YouTuber Calls for Recount in Texas Election Defeat

Gun-rights activist Brandon Herrera, known for his presence on YouTube, has announced his intention to request a recount of the results in his Republican primary runoff loss to Rep. Tony Gonzales of Texas.

In a statement to The  Texas Tribune, Herrera expressed his commitment to his volunteers, voters, and supporters by ensuring that no avenue goes unexplored, although he does not anticipate a change in the results.

While Herrera had previously indicated his acceptance of the results, he revealed to the Tribune that a recount was always on the cards due to the narrow margin of about 1.4 percentage points.

According to the Tribune, Herrera will initiate the recount process on Friday for Bexar, El Paso, Medina, and Uvalde counties, where he lost to Gonzales by 407 votes. The race was characterized by a clash between the moderate and conservative factions of the Republican party.

As reported by the San Antonio Express-News, Gonzales faced censure from the Texas GOP last year for his stances on new gun laws and same-sex marriage, leading critics to label him a RINO (Republican in name only).
