Zelenskyy praises US for reinforcing its status as a ‘Beacon of Democracy’ through Ukraine aid
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy praised the U.S. Senate’s approval of a multi-billion aid package for Ukraine, emphasizing America’s important role as a “beacon of democracy.”
“I am thankful to the U.S. Senate for approving crucial aid for Ukraine,” Zelenskyy stated in a message on the Telegram app.
He added, “This vote further solidifies America’s position as a beacon of democracy and a leader of the free world.”
Ukrainian officials expressed gratitude for the new U.S. military aid that will support Kyiv’s armed forces in their ongoing conflict with Russia, even though the impact may not be immediate.
Due to delays in Washington, Ukrainian troops have faced shortages of ammunition and air defense systems, allowing Russian forces to advance in parts of eastern Ukraine. The situation has mainly turned into a war of attrition.
Despite the aid approval, the Kremlin persisted in its attacks on the Kharkiv region while Ukrainian drones targeted fuel and energy facilities in Russia.
Zelenskyy thanked the U.S. Senate for passing the $61 billion aid package late Tuesday.
“Ukraine’s long-range capabilities, artillery, and air defense are crucial for achieving lasting peace,” Zelenskyy mentioned on social media, referring to the aid expected in the coming weeks.
Recent missile strikes hit various Ukrainian cities, causing damage but fortunately no casualties reported.
Ukrainian drones also targeted Russian infrastructure, leading to fires in energy facilities. On the Russian side, several drones were shot down in different regions.
