A Battle Over Water Heaters
In what we hope will be the final blow to everyday Americans, Team Biden’s green advocates are now targeting yet another widely used household appliance: gas-fired tankless water heaters.
Set to take effect in 2029, this new regulation bans 40% of new water-heater models, which will compel consumers to spend an additional $450 on electric alternatives that are rendered useless during power outages.
This continues the trend from last year, which effectively banned new non-condensing gas furnaces by 2028 — resulting in increased expenses exceeding $900 for consumers.
All of this is part of the misguided green agenda, which asserts that mandating an electric-only lifestyle will somehow lower carbon emissions. This is despite the reality that the U.S. electric grid will remain heavily reliant on fossil fuels for the foreseeable future.
The expansion of wind, solar, and other alternative energy sources has not even begun to keep pace with rising electricity demand.
Thus, these mandates are unlikely to decrease emissions, as claimed by the Biden Energy Department; instead, they’re likely to strain the electric grid, escalating the risk of blackouts when none of the new appliances will function.
A troubling bonus: The rush toward the “green transition” increases the likelihood of power outages during winter, as cold-weather demand peaks.
The water-heater ban disproportionately impacts working-class families, low-income individuals, and seniors: Tankless models are primarily found in apartments and smaller homes, where residents are usually economically disadvantaged.
Moreover, the elderly face heightened risks from the cold; this regulation jeopardizes lives.
According to the Alliance for Consumers, rules enacted during the Biden administration concerning home appliances (including dishwashers, laundry machines, etc.) have burdened the average family with an additional $9,000 in costs, all while forcing us to use “modern” machines that take significantly longer to perform their functions.
While a potential Team Trump may reverse some of these mandates, those of us residing in blue states like New York remain at the mercy of the same agenda. Governor Kathy Hochul is leading her own campaign against gas heating, stoves, and even basic home gas hookups.
Additionally, she’s driving electric bills sky-high to fund large subsidies for “alternative” energy that will remain ineffective during periods without wind or sunlight.
In the recent November elections, voters rejected some of the more blatant missteps from Democrats — such as issues related to immigration, cultural matters, and economic mishaps.
We fear that it may take experiencing the disastrous consequences of the Democrats’ green policies for voters to finally awaken and actively oppose these measures as well.
