ActBlue Scandal Reveals Democrats as the True ‘Dark Money’ Party

For years, Democrats have vocally opposed the menace of “dark money” and outside influence in elections, repeatedly pledging during the 2024 campaign to “save democracy” from the supposed threat posed by Republicans. However, it seems the real issues were emerging from within their own ranks.

Recently, three House committees unveiled a report following a lengthy investigation revealing that the progressive fundraising powerhouse ActBlue reduced its fraud prevention standards twice during the 2024 election cycle.

As a result, a significant number of fraudulent donations poured in, some traced back to countries such as Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Colombia.

Even more alarming, the nonprofit was aware that widespread fraud was likely occurring and actively increased its vulnerability.

An ActBlue Fraud Prevention Specialist reported that the organization’s “likelihood of fraudulence” score with its fraud prevention partner, Sift, was “the highest it [had] ever been and appear[ed] to be climbing further” in July 2024. Nevertheless, leadership opted to loosen restrictions for the second time that same year just two months later.

This made it easier for illegal contributions to slip through ActBlue’s inadequate screening system.

According to the report: “Internal communications explain that ‘if someone could coordinate a big attack where each individual donation fell below the [fraud review] threshold, they would go through.’”

Despite this, ActBlue instructed fraud-prevention staff to “seek reasons to accept contributions.”

This report follows a racketeering lawsuit lodged by a Wisconsin Republican strategist who alleges his identity was misappropriated to create 385 counterfeit donations to various left-leaning causes through ActBlue.

In summary, ActBlue appears so intent on supporting Democrats that it effectively sanitized illicit contributions.

This has led to a wave of resignations—seven senior ActBlue officials have left, and a top lawyer from its general counsel office has taken a leave of absence following allegations of retaliation for whistleblowing.

Democrats often portray Republicans as being funded by major corporations and “the 1%,” while insisting their own campaigns are backed by grassroots supporters—“real Americans.”

All the while, they continue to amass contributions from billionaires such as George Soros, Reid Hoffman, Pierre Omidyar, Peter Buffett, and Hansjorg Wyss, alongside substantial dark-money funnels laundered through organizations like the Tides Foundation and dubious foreign donors.

The party that claims “democracy is in peril” has been misplacing its blame.
