Al Green: Trump’s Address and Correspondence
The Concern: The Democrats’ conduct during President Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress.
After witnessing the disgraceful behavior exhibited by the Democratic Party during President Trump’s speech this week, I found myself pondering the party’s decline (“Disgraceful Dems sinking ever lower,” Miranda Devine, March 6).
The era of JFK is a distant memory. On Tuesday, it was evident: a group of individuals failed to demonstrate the basic decency to applaud a young boy battling cancer who aspires to become a law-enforcement officer.
They also couldn’t stand to acknowledge the American families shattered by tragedies instigated by criminals that the Democratic Party has embraced over the last four years. Such conduct was appalling.

While Devine’s critique of the Democratic Party’s present state may be harsh, she is undeniably accurate.
The party lacks direction, with those attempting to take the lead being out of touch with the views of the majority on nearly all matters, adhering to a rigid ideology reminiscent of a radical sect rather than a significant political party.
The nation needs an alternative platform to hold Republicans accountable, but the current Democratic Party is not fulfilling that role.

Considering their juvenile actions during Trump’s speech, a suitable new nickname for the Democrats might be the “Debbie Downers.”
These disconnected legislators oppose everything Trump puts forward, irrespective of its merit. They have a singular agenda: oppose Trump at any cost, disregarding the will of voters.

Every day, Democrats reach new lows. Observing their responses during the president’s address was disheartening.
I could understand their lack of applause for efforts aimed at reducing waste and corruption — to paraphrase Harry Truman, one cannot amass wealth in politics unless one is corrupt. However, their refusal to applaud job creation and other prosperity initiatives introduced by the president was astonishing.
Their indifference to the return of political prisoners and to a young individual triumphing over cancer while pursuing his dreams was equally shocking.

It was likely not just me, as an Independent, who was stunned by the Democrats’ conduct. Al Green from Texas crossed the line of decency, shouting and waving his cane threateningly at President Trump during his address to Congress.
When Green ignored the decorum expected in Congress, House Speaker Mike Johnson had him removed — sending a clear message to Democrats that such unruly behavior will not be tolerated.

Rep. Green was justly censured for his appalling behavior and ejected from Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress. Perhaps Green should have taken a cue from the singer who shares his name and demonstrated a bit more “Love and Happiness” toward Trump and the country.

Green was evidently a menace to every member of Congress, as he cavorted around, incoherently yelling and brandishing his walking cane.
In his outburst, Green exceeded reasonable limits. He should be barred from accessing our Congress in the future.

Green’s display was theatrical. It was impressively executed. Unfortunately, it was too late for this year’s Oscars. Here’s hoping next year the Academy recognizes him for “Best Performance in Fake Spontaneity.”
