Allegations of George Soros Funding Anti-Israel Protests: Correspondence

The Issue: George Soros’ alleged role in funding anti-Israel college protests amid rising antisemitism.

Why isn’t George Soros arrested for treason (“College hate, by George,” April 26)?

This maniac is undermining American democracy and no one dares to say a word. The Soros family continues to fund every cause that wants to destroy America — and we all stand by and watch.

It is reported that George Soros has underwritten anti-Semitic riots across American colleges.

Over the last two decades, Soros has funded campus turmoil that disrupts visiting speakers, causes riots and cancels classes. In any democracy lawlessness is destructive of liberty and that seems to be the Soros goal.

Soros is a cancer on America whose departure will generate neither tears nor regrets.

How has George Soros managed to drive a wedge between Israel and the Democratic Party?

The United States and Israel have been the closest of allies based on mutual interests and respect. Love and support for Israel has always been bipartisan.

Radical leftists have intimidated political hopefuls for years. They are making Israel into a partisan issue with the Democrats adopting anti-Israel positions.

The solution lies in the hands of President Biden. He must address the nation and condemn these antisemites with no reservations. He must defund any university that tolerates antisemitism and fails to protect its Jewish students.

Students who have violated the law should face jail time, as fines paid by wealthy sponsors are not sufficient to curtail blatant racism.

As to the ongoing campus protests, either by people who are paid agitators or students who are educated idiots, colleges need to teach that the term Palestine was created around 1923, while Israel has existed all the way back to at least 4000 BC.

The spectacle of using starvation as a weapon of war is positively medieval and wrong — and many Jews who believe it is wrong are calling on a proud history of supporting those who have no voice.

Is it antisemitic to be against a vastly superior army slaughtering tens of thousands of innocent people and remotely targeting homes of civilians because an algorithm says that someone there is a terrorist?

It is clear many of the protests are being generated thanks to outside sources.

I suggest that the best way to deal with the young and uninformed students is to reinstitute the draft. A little military discipline would induce some appreciation of the freedoms these students currently enjoy might help.

Hormones rage during this spring’s protests as students emerge from isolation and look up from their screens long enough to look for their wider community.

And college faculty are now flat-footed. They missed an opportunity to guide a constructive approach to the assemblage and make it a learning opportunity in eliciting ideas, shaping discussion and employing dialogue.

Even if the student-led protests simply mimic or build on the initial protests, isn’t there a value in eliciting clear, even innovative viewpoints on the basic issues? Making a case for humane action, not derision? Use the event to achieve clarity of purpose, not further conflict.

Lawlessness is going too far in too many American cities, the result of the emptying of knowledge that used to be found and disseminated on many of these campuses — in favor of “victims’ narratives,” “personal truths” and “safe spaces.”

Across elite colleges, there has been a collapse in the search for truth — which is the original task of universities. This has led to the rise of counter-culture types who have helped promote both DEI and leftism.
