Alleged leaker Jack Teixeira’s defenders should be ashamed

One sure way to become a political hero in this country, it seems, is to betray it by revealing official secrets.

Just look at the response, left and right, to the theft and publication of highly classified documents, allegedly by Air National Guardsman Jack Teixeira

After Teixeira’s exposure and arrest, congressional firebrand Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) tweeted that he’s “white, male, christian, and antiwar” so we must ask “who is the real enemy,” him or President Joe Biden.

Lefty gadfly Glenn Greenwald praised Teixeira by saying on TV that he “did the job of what journalists claim to do” and that any “real journalist” “would be celebrating” him.

Take into account that so far not a shred of evidence suggests any ideological motive for the leak; he simply sought to impress the boys in an online forum.

Greene and Greenwald, unlikeliest of bedfellows, are united only in having an extreme view of the leaker’s moral valor. Most reasonable people would agree that spilling state secrets simply to show off — not to uncover human-rights abuses or other crimes — is not just spectacularly dumb, but also treasonous.

There is little to gain by glorifying Teixeira, but the response does reflect the depth of the partisan divide in this country.

By the way, that includes liberal media attempts to paint him as a white supremacist because a man in the military shows an interest in . . . wait for it . . . guns.

Worse still, the public battle over just how heroic Teixeira is diverts attention from two far more pressing questions.

1) Why on earth did a gamer barely into his twenties, serving in tech support, have such easy and plentiful access to high-level documents that he could simply print them out and walk off with them unobstructed?

Here’s what we know about Jack Teixeira and the leaked docs

Who is Teixeira?

A 21-year-old Massachusetts Air National Guardsman, an enlisted member of the 102nd Intelligence Wing located at Joint Base Cape Cod.

Why was he arrested?

The arrest came after Teixeira was identified as a person of interest in the case, which was opened last week when some of the shared documents were discovered on Russian Telegram channels.

Reports indicate Teixeira was a prominent figure in the “Thug Shakers Central” Discord group, where the documents initially appeared.

What information is in the leaked documents?

The classified documents from the Department of Defense contained key information about America’s espionage efforts against Russia, as well as details about Ukraine’s military planning.

How were the documents leaked?

The classified pages were disseminated on the small Discord channel Thug Shaker Central, linked to fans of the YouTuber Oxide.

2) Why did the FBI wait so long before getting on the job of finding the leaker, who started the drip in February?

Were its agents too busy investigating Catholic “extremists” or drawing up threat profiles of parents who object to woke curricula in schools?

Teixeira’s no hero; he should be punished and not eulogized.

And his defenders should be ashamed of themselves.
