Disappearing History
It’s not surprising that many American students today lack knowledge of our country’s history (“U. don’t know jack,” July 17).
This decline has been ongoing for some time, with both colleges and public schools downplaying the importance of history education. What’s equally troubling is the lack of emphasis on World War II, a crucial conflict that has shaped today’s geopolitical landscape, with many students only receiving minimal instruction on the topic. Previous surveys have shown that students struggle to identify even the basic Allied leaders. Forgetting one’s heritage can be perilous for a nation.

Breaking Away from the Squad
Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been dropped by the Democratic Socialists of America for her support of a forum on antisemitism (“Socialist diss for standing by Jews,” July 12).
Looking at the challenges faced by the Squad, it’s clear that Ocasio-Cortez is distancing herself from the more radical members of the group. Congressman Jamaal Bowman lost his primary race, and Representative Cori Bush is currently trailing her opponent.
It appears that Ocasio-Cortez is gradually separating herself from the rest of the Squad. Associating with outcasts is not a good image for a politician like AOC who has political aspirations.

Off-Key Performance
I have one observation regarding Ingrid Andress’ intoxicated rendition at the Home Run Derby (“Star-Mangle Banner alibi K,” July 17).
Francis Scott Key’s composition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” in 1814 presented a challenge to every American singer past and future due to the song’s challenging high notes.
Why the uproar over Andress? Many singers have struggled with performing the song, even without indulging in a few drinks from a hotel minibar.

Investing in Florida
The Post expressed concerns about investing in Miami Beach due to rising sea levels and increased hurricane activity (“Real estate guru cautions against these Florida cities,” July 11).

Banning AR-15s
Many Republicans may not be aware that the AR-15-style assault rifle used in the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump is the same type of rifle that President Biden has been working to prohibit for over a year (“ ‘By luck or by God . . . I’m still here,’ ” July 17).
Hopefully, Republican lawmakers will now take steps to strengthen gun safety laws, rather than weaken them.
