Antisemitism on Campus Was Predictable and Top-School Degrees Could Lose Value Soon

Following Oct. 7, there was widespread shock at the events that transpired on American campuses.

Americans had come to believe that college campuses were intolerant, left-wing, and increasingly non-meritocratic.

However, after Oct. 7, there was a notable student delight at the mass murder of Israeli victims, reminiscent of 1930s Germany rather than contemporary America.

There are reports of university professors or student groups expressing antisemitic hatred on a daily basis, often targeting Jewish students.

The George Floyd riots in 2020 led to an increase in the admission of diverse students beyond their representation in the general population. This has led to a decrease in the number of “white” students being admitted into elite universities.

As a result, the number of Jewish students has decreased from 20%-30% to 10%-15% in Ivy League student bodies.

Additionally, there has been a significant increase in the number of foreign students, particularly from the Middle East, many of whom are subsidized by their home governments.

The abolition of SAT requirements and changes in admission standards have resulted in universities facing challenges related to the guarantees of top-flight undergraduates and professionals from their graduate programs.

Antisemitism has increased in this environment, with a rise in racist and antisemitic behavior going unchecked in some university courses.

These radical changes in higher education have led to poorly educated graduates and an increase in incidents of antisemitism on campus. University administrators have been unable to curb this hatred.

As a result, the reputation of once-elite campuses may suffer, and employers may begin to view degrees from these institutions with skepticism.
