Antony Blinken meets with Mexican officials to discuss border issues

The Issue: Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s recent visit to Mexico for US border crisis talks.

The border surge exemplifies the decline of our democracy (“Help us stem the tidal wave,” Dec. 28).

A recent poll indicated that only 38% of American voters approve of President Biden’s handling of the border crisis, proving this is no longer a partisan issue — it’s a national emergency. Yet Congress remains deadlocked.

If you had a bad water leak in your kitchen sink, the first thing you would do is turn off the incoming flow. While Congress is stymied, the least the feds can do is shut down the border by any means necessary until they figure out a better solution.

To say we’ve been overwhelmed by current policy is an understatement. Even “sanctuary” mayors and governors are beginning to break.

When our president swore an oath to protect and defend the United States, surely control of our border was included in that promise.

The complaints from Mayor Adams and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson regarding immigrants being bussed from Texas are incessant. These mayors avoid blaming the president directly, instead blaming the federal government in general.

But it’s the president’s open border policy that is responsible for this mess. For some reason, Adams said he would vote for Biden again. You get what you wish for, Mr. Sanctuary City. Cry me a river.

Following Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s meeting in Mexico, one thing is certain: Our leadership is incapable of working on its own.

He and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas had the gall to call the visit a success when all they did was get jerked around by Mexico’s leaders.

It’s time we take our country back and put someone more competent in the White House. Congress has become a joke, incapable of action, while the FBI looks like a Democratic goon squad. Meanwhile, we the people foot the bill. This country needs to wake up fast before the Constitution is destroyed.

As an immigrant from Bangladesh and a naturalized US citizen, I think it’s unacceptable that foreign nationals are marching in large groups toward our country with the intention of crossing the US–Mexico border, without any type of visa. The United States must not tolerate any migrant caravans and should strictly enforce immigration law.

Approximately one million immigrants became naturalized US citizens last year. We should embrace this kind of legal immigration.

Since the start of the Biden administration, we have seen the erosion of our nation’s immigration laws and the absence of border security. At a rapid rate, our country’s sovereignty is being diminished. It’s time to secure the southern border and prevent the unlawful entry of foreign nationals.

Our country has become the dumping ground for impoverished nations. Progressive politics has backfired in Democrat-majority cities, to the point that public regret has become palpable.

The Biden administration’s main motivation to stem the flow of migration is saving face for the upcoming election.

The most powerful nation in the world has all the resources to stop this problem. Biden shouldn’t have to pander to another nation’s government to get it done.
