As progressive bullies target Adams, ‘moderate’ Democrats seek refuge.

We are searching in vain for any indication of New York Democrats’ alleged new moderation as the establishment hastily moves to oust Mayor Eric Adams.

Adams, the democratically elected Democratic mayor, faces criticism for simply wanting to . . . collaborate legally with the federal government to remove violent illegal immigrant offenders.

This approach enjoys overwhelming public support, yet it enrages the progressive elite.

On Tuesday, a group of political leaders congregated at Gov. Kathy Hochul’s office to demand she undermine his position—either by removing him from office or by coercing him into abandoning his re-election campaign.

Throughout this, not a single “moderate” voice has been raised in objection.

Hochul, meanwhile, is playing into the mob mentality, stating that the resignation of four aides somehow “raises serious questions about the long-term viability of this mayoral administration.”

In reality: Staff changes happen all the time; staffers serve at the discretion of the elected official.

However, this governor often capitulates to the far left; if a crisis is unfolding, it is not Adams who is held hostage by Team Trump, but rather Hochul who is bowing down to progressive pressures.

Significantly absent from this discourse is former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who is busy fostering “spontaneous” calls for him to rescue the city by entering the mayoral race.

Despite the fact that a victory in sidelining Adams could only embolden the leftists that Cuomo claims to oppose, one must ask, Andrew, why aren’t you standing up now?

In the meantime, Rep. Ritchie Torres tweeted about an alleged “hostile takeover of New York’s immigration and law enforcement policy” that Hochul should thwart by removing Adams.

Ex-Gov. David Paterson, who has been out of office for 15 years, pointed out the obvious: “I don’t hear any valid reason for him to resign”; the outcry seems to stem purely from “We’re upset with you for collaborating with Trump.”

Queens City Councilman Robert Holden, 73 and term-limited, has also condemned the “witch hunt.”

Yet, other “moderate” leaders like Rep. Tom Suozzi remain silent.

Thus: The progressives are on the offensive shouting “Resist Trump!”—while so-called anti-progressives with any real stake in the matter hide away.

Not that actual conservatives are immune from blame: The interim team at the Trump Justice Department mishandled the case against Adams, allowing it to develop a scandalous air and igniting the #Resistance reaction.

If Hochul ends up undermining the mayor in some capacity, the real losers will once again be ordinary New Yorkers, as the radical left achieves another victory and perpetuates a cycle of fear, intimidation, and irrational policies.

Until non-progressive New York Democrats display genuine backbone, the only direction they will “lead” is towards further decline.
