Biden-Harris Administration works to prevent deportation of migrants with criminal backgrounds

When the Biden-Harris administration assumed office, they declared a focus on immigration enforcement towards criminal aliens rather than “ordinary” illegal immigrants. What resulted is an increase in criminal migrants!

ICE recently published data indicating that there are over 600,000 foreign criminals on ICE’s docket who are not currently in custody. Some may be in state or local jails, but many of them are walking free on our streets.

Is anyone surprised by this? Keep in mind that this is the same administration that announced a 100-day moratorium on all deportations on its first day in office, including criminals and terrorists.

Unfortunately, things have not improved since then.

My colleague Jon Feere, a former ICE chief of staff, compared criminal deportations under this administration with the previous one. The findings are concerning. Under Biden-Harris:

– There was a 44% decrease in ICE notifications to local law enforcement to hold criminal aliens detained on local charges, known as “detainers.”
– There was a 57% reduction in the number of criminal aliens arrested compared to the first three years under Trump.
– There was a staggering 67% decrease in the number of criminals actually deported.

The Homeland Security Secretary, Alejandro Mayorkas, released a memo shortly after his appointment that limits ICE agents’ abilities to enforce immigration laws. The memo specifies that only certain illegal immigrants, including those engaged in serious criminal conduct, can be targeted for enforcement. However, before an ICE agent can question an illegal alien, the memo requires assessing various mitigating factors.

The goal is clear: to make it extremely challenging to enforce the law effectively. Another reason for known criminal aliens roaming the streets is the administration’s strong opposition to detaining illegal immigrants, which is crucial for ensuring they leave the country.

Despite increased funding from Congress, the average number of deportable migrants in ICE detention has dropped significantly since 2019. Sanctuary policies, which provide protection to criminal aliens, are also contributing to this issue.

While the Trump administration made efforts to rein in sanctuary policies, the Biden-Harris administration has been more lenient, failing to take strong actions against sanctuary cities and states.

The lack of cooperation from “recalcitrant countries” that refuse to accept back their citizens who have been ordered deported is another challenge. There are over one million individuals with final orders of removal, including criminals, who are still in the country. The Biden-Harris administration has not utilized the State Department’s power to pressure these countries into accepting their citizens back.

VP Harris recently pledged to crack down on illegal immigration during a border visit, but the reality is quite different. The administration’s focus seems to be more on opposing deportation rather than addressing the presence of hundreds of thousands of known criminal aliens on the streets.

Not deporting criminal aliens leads to them residing in neighborhoods. Harris has shown little concern for this issue, exemplified by her participation in a protest chanting “Down, down with deportation!” in 2018.

If criminal aliens are not deported, the consequences are dire. Mark Krikorian, Executive Director of the Center for Immigration Studies, emphasizes the necessity of addressing this critical issue.
