Biden’s Comments on Caitlin Clark’s Salary Highlight Economic Illiteracy
President Biden expressed his concern on Tuesday about Caitlin Clark’s reported rookie-year salary, aligning with the left’s outrage and displaying a lack of understanding of economic principles.
Caitlin Clark, a women’s pro basketball star, signed a $338,000 four-year contract with the Indiana Fever, earning $76,535 in her rookie season. In contrast, Victor Wembanyama, the No. 1 overall pick in 2023, has a four-year deal with the San Antonio Spurs worth over $55 million, with a reported first-year salary of $12.1 million.
The disparity has caused frustration among the left, including President Biden.
Biden posted on X, stating, “Right now we’re seeing that even if you’re the best, women are not paid their fair share. It’s time that we give our daughters the same opportunities as our sons and ensure women are paid what they deserve.”
The salary gap between women players and the NBA’s male players is not due to sexism, but rather the financial success of the leagues. The WNBA generates significantly less revenue than the NBA, making it financially challenging to pay high salaries to players.
As interest in women’s sports grows and contributes to the league’s financial success, players like Clark, Reese, and Boston will likely see increased contract values. In the meantime, they can earn from endorsement deals and social media.
Biden’s lack of understanding of basic economic principles extends to other aspects of the economy, as evidenced by rising prices and unmet promises. This may impact how voters view him in the upcoming elections in November.
