Biden’s disappointing acknowledgments of Pelosi, Gore, and Kerry

Previous presidents have made questionable choices for the Presidential Medal of Freedom (Jim Jordan?), but Joe Biden went a step further by selecting Nancy Pelosi, Al Gore, and John Kerry all at once.

Most recipients of this prestigious honor are usually philanthropists, artists, athletes, entertainers, activists, and pioneers, not politicians closely aligned with the current president.

While Pelosi may be honored for her historic role as the first woman House speaker, perhaps the timing could have been better.

And while Gore and Kerry are former Democratic presidential candidates, their focus on climate change advocacy does not necessarily warrant this honor.

Gore’s citation for the award appears to be politically motivated, citing his acceptance of the outcome of a disputed election rather than his actual accomplishments.

Kerry, on the other hand, is being recognized for his long public service career, although some may view this as self-serving.

By law, Biden has the freedom to choose recipients of the award, but these selections may reflect poorly on his judgment, especially in light of current issues like the state of the economy and the border.
