Biden’s Fear of Escalation Allows Putin to Gain Upper Hand in Ukraine
President Biden warned on the two-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine that “History is watching. The failure to support Ukraine at this critical moment will not be forgotten,” as reported by New York Post.
“Now is the time to prove that the United States stands up for freedom and bows down to no one.”
Despite these strong words, actions speak louder than rhetoric.
Repeatedly, Biden has yielded to Vladimir Putin, allowing the tyrant to dictate the terms of the invasion.
This is particularly evident in the restrictive rules imposed on Ukraine’s defense strategy.
Biden has prohibited the use of US weapons to attack Russian targets, with only minor exceptions, leaving Ukraine vulnerable to Russian attacks from Russian territory.
Putin has issued threats of dire consequences should Biden or NATO challenge these restrictions, backed by Russian television airing fantasies of nuclear war.
Despite the risks involved, Biden must not be swayed by Putin’s threats.
If Putin meets resistance, he will back down, as evidenced by his bullying tactics throughout history.
The current approach prolongs the conflict, resulting in numerous casualties without reversing Putin’s gains in Ukraine.
Ukraine needs the ability to strike at Russian targets within their territory to have a chance at victory or negotiate peace from a position of strength.
Other countries like China, Iran, and North Korea are observing Biden’s response to Ukraine and Israel, learning that America’s power has its limits.
America’s reluctance to take decisive action against rising fascism indicates weakness rather than restraint, potentially leading to the decline of American influence on the world stage.
