Bill Maher criticizes Americans facing inflation while praising Biden from his private jet
Are you concerned about being able to afford housing or even just basic food as prices rise?
Bill Maher wants to assure you that your worries are unfounded.
In a recent episode of his HBO show “Real Time with Bill Maher,” Maher criticized millions of Americans who he believes don’t appreciate President Biden enough.
“Why are Biden’s approval ratings low when things are generally going well?” Maher questioned.
“Sure, there are challenges, but wages are increasing, unemployment is low, the stock market is thriving, we have moved past the Trump era and the pandemic.”
Plus, you have access to explicit content almost anytime you want.
“Yes, there is inflation in many areas, but a good-sized TV now costs only $60. Who deserves credit for that? We have fast shipping, unique pizza, legal marijuana, GPS, and adult content on our phones. Be grateful!” he scolded.
“Stop acting like life in America in 2024 is unbearable. Biden’s ratings are low not because he’s failing but because many Americans live in denial!”
Maher likes to think he relates to the average person while traveling on a private jet, but his live shows don’t require him to engage with the audience.
He fails to understand the struggles of ordinary Americans who haven’t seen a raise in years and can’t speak up due to limited job options unlike Maher’s luxurious lifestyle.
If he truly understood, he wouldn’t attribute most Americans’ economic satisfaction to stock market success — where the top 1% owns over 54% of stocks worth over $19 trillion.
Maher downplays the impact of inflation when it’s a significant economic concern.
And the situation is even worse than official reports suggest.
Jason Trennert from Strategas Research Partners developed the Common Man Consumer Price Index to measure inflation for essential items like food, shelter, and energy rather than the cheap electronics Maher praises.
Under Biden’s leadership, inflation has reduced the average worker’s living standard by about 7% since 2021, according to the Common Man CPI.
Maher fails to comprehend that the middle class is not just affected by inflation but is also being locked out of homeownership and struggling with rising rent.
Maher overlooks the real economic challenges faced by average Americans, instead choosing to exaggerate Biden’s effectiveness.
This is not surprising given that Maher has expressed hopes for a recession to undermine Trump’s re-election chances.
“I feel like the bottom has to fall out at some point, and by the way, I’m hoping for it because I think one way you get rid of Trump is a crashing economy,” Maher stated.
“So please, bring on the recession.”
Maher fails to understand the reality for those without savings, like myself, who can’t just cheer up when struggling to find a home and afford basic necessities.
Biden may not be entirely responsible for economic issues, but dismissing our struggles from a privileged position is elitist.
Broadcasting a dismissive message on HBO and soon CNN about how we should feel grateful for small conveniences is equivalent to “Let them eat cake,” which fails to address real concerns.
Maher, like many others, enjoys his privilege from the top while ignoring the struggles of those beneath him: Old habits die hard.
