Boeing prioritizes shareholder interests over safety and other concerns, according to letters

Bogus Boeing

The decline of Boeing reveals that companies cannot effectively regulate themselves (“Boeing jet windshield in crack on landing,”, March 20).

Without proper oversight, the free market can harm consumers. Once a great American company, Boeing is now a disgrace — a company that prioritized profit over safety.

By doing so, Boeing has tarnished the reputation of products labeled “Made in America” with subpar work and corner cutting. Regulations, although sometimes burdensome or for show, are necessary. The belief that unregulated free markets are always positive and that corporations can self-regulate must be debunked — Boeing is a prime example.

Cows of the future

In a recent absurd development, researchers genetically modified a cow to produce human insulin in its milk (“Holy cow! Milk could be answer for diabetics,”, March 20).

While dairy products are popular, the dairy industry often involves cruelty and suffering. There are alternatives to cow milk that offer delicious dairy-free options like ice cream and pizza.

Instead of genetically modifying animals, efforts could be better spent on promoting healthy habits for individuals with diabetes and exploring other ways to assist them.

COVID memories

I have a different recollection of the early days of COVID compared to Glenn Harlan Reynolds (“Making Amends for COVID Mistakes,”, PostOpinion, March 19).

I remember not only immune-compromised individuals but also healthy young people dying on ventilators. I was appreciative of the recommendations from Dr. Anthony Fauci and others to wear masks, practice social distancing, and shut down bars and restaurants.

While remote schooling and isolation had negative effects, they were necessary options at the time. Now with vaccinations, at-home COVID tests, and treatments available, fewer people are dying. Hence, the need for social distancing and lockdowns has decreased.

I do not know where Reynolds obtained information about masks being ineffective. His claim that “the government response to COVID was probably more destructive than the virus itself” is, in my opinion, baseless.

Photoshop botch

In the era of film portrait photography, negatives were often retouched, and prints themselves were also edited. It was never a source of outrage in the media when portraits of Queen Elizabeth II or other royal family members were professionally altered.

I see no significant difference between the art of portrait photography then and now. Therefore, the excessive focus on whether royal family pictures are “digitally altered” is puzzling, especially when it is intended to raise alarm.

Get Burned, Bern

In response to The Post’s article on Sen. Bernie Sanders’ proposal to reduce the work week (“Bernie is for 32-hr work week,”, March 15): There are many individuals who would prefer Sen. Sanders to reduce his work week to zero hours.
