Canceled Joy Reid Highlights MSNBC’s Shift from Purposeful Journalism to Left-Wing Propaganda
Outrageous MSNBC personality Joy Reid’s program “The ReidOut” has been axed, as the struggling network’s president Rebecca Kutler hints at a broader series of changes designed to rescue MSNBC ahead of its transformation into an independent entity.
To put it plainly: The fact that Reid ever had a prominent show was absurd.
She frequently misrepresented, deceived and misled viewers to push the agenda of the Democratic Party’s left wing and support its policy initiatives.
When it came to Russiagate, COVID, and other topics, Reid was at the forefront of the media’s propaganda campaigns for years.
(And let’s not forget, she deserves some sort of lifetime achievement award for appearances in our The Week in Whoppers column!)
So, no sadness here over her departure.
However, it does appear that MSNBC is not gaining much insight: The executives are reportedly bringing on Kamala Harris supporter Symone Sanders-Townsend for the panel replacing Reid, along with Democratic insider Alicia Menendez and Biden-supporting GOPer Michael Steele.
Additionally, Rachel Maddow and former Biden spokesperson Jen Psaki (notorious for her own fibs) will still play significant roles in its programming.
This leads to a larger question: Has the network really outlived its usefulness?
Its main purpose was to take the legitimate news collected by NBC (which is already markedly left-leaning) and reshape it through a progressive lens.
It was also about generating ever-louder applause and laughter from its Boomer/Gen X viewers.
For much of the last decade, MSNBC focused on an incessant frenzy over Donald Trump and the latest progressive cause trending at the moment.
However, right after Trump’s election win, the network’s primetime viewership dropped by 53%. (There has been a slight recovery since then.)
It seems many of those “lawn sign Americans” have turned away from MSNBC as the antidote for Orange Man; perhaps they’ve abandoned TV news altogether and are now opting to sip kombucha while lamenting their plight.
(Is it a long shot? Could they be engaging in some soul-searching, something for which MSNBC is utterly inept?)
Regardless of the reason, MSNBC’s raison d’etre is becoming quite ambiguous.
And that is fantastic news for our country.
