Cardinal Dolan Bestows Blessings onto Animals for the Radio City Christmas Spectacular
Radio City experienced quite the spectacle during His Eminence’s annual holiday blessing of the animals. The Cardinal, a unique figure, blessed the four-legged performers of the venue’s famous Christmas show. Located on Sixth Avenue, the weather was cold, but the 1,800-pound camel named Humphrey seemed unaffected. His trainer explained that the desert climate has made him accustomed to cold nights. Humphrey grazed near the ceiling, munching on his food, while the onlookers couldn’t help but wonder what he might hear from the Sahara. The trainer mentioned that he was a little nervous. In addition to Humphrey, there were two sheep on one side and a donkey on the other. The Cardinal interacted with the animals, posed for photos, spoke with the scantily dressed Rockettes, and offered his blessings. At one point, another camel, possibly Humphrey’s cousin, even tried to eat Cardinal Dolan’s cap. It was quite a sight to see Cardinal Dolan dancing with the Rockettes during the ceremony. The animals present during the Radio City event included a camel, sheep, and a donkey.
His Eminence’s sister, Lisa, along with her family of ten, planned to visit and enjoy various activities such as Rock Rink, the Thanksgiving Parade, the Radio City Christmas show, and meeting Humphrey. They would then return home to Washington, Mo., feeling grateful for the experience.
In a light-hearted anecdote, former Hungary Ambassador David Cornstein shared a joke involving different nationalities’ reactions to a fly falling into their coffee. Each nationality displayed unique behaviors, highlighting cultural stereotypes and quirks.
