Charters Showcase Success Academy’s Regent Results, Demonstrating Benefits for Students

Success Academy’s model has once again proven its effectiveness by outperforming regular public high schools in New York State Regents exams. In June, Success’ middle school students took exams usually given to 10th and 11th graders and surpassed the 2023 results of nearly 200,000 traditional public high school students by over 30%.

The key to Success’ success lies in their belief that students can meet high standards and providing them with the necessary tools and support to do so.

While many public schools lower the bar for students, Success challenges students with rigorous coursework early on, preparing them to be college-ready by the time they graduate, often ahead of their peers in city-run schools.

On the contrary, the United Federation of Teachers resists the idea that teachers are responsible for educating their students.

Despite the state of New York making Regents exams optional in favor of easier proficiency tests, the success of students at Success Academy disproves the argument that standardized tests are unfair to minority students.

Out of the 2,400 Success scholars who took the Regents exams in June, 56% were black, 31% Hispanic, and 74% economically disadvantaged, yet they passed with flying colors.

Success Academy’s model may not be suitable for every student, but for those hungry for knowledge, it consistently produces near-miraculous results on state tests.

These bright students, who might have otherwise been trapped in poorly run neighborhood schools, are thriving at Success Academy.

If Gov. Hochul and Mayor Adams need further evidence to support the establishment of new charter schools, the success of Success Academy provides a clear indication.
