Congress must prevent Biden from withholding ammunition to Israel

President Biden is reportedly delaying munition shipments to Israel in an attempt to pressure them to allow Hamas to remain in power in Gaza.

Congressional leaders must warn the White House against interfering with military assistance to Israel and hold them accountable for any such actions.

Recent reports from Israeli officials suggest that a scheduled US weapons shipment did not arrive in Israel, potentially as a veiled threat from Biden to limit Israeli military operations against Hamas.

There are concerns that Biden’s actions are driven by fears of chaos within his party and pressure from his pro-Hamas base, leading him to make deals with Iran to ensure calm until the November elections.

However, pressuring Israel to make deals with Hamas could backfire, as Hamas may feel less pressure to negotiate and continue its provocations against Israel and the US.

Congress has the power to intervene and ensure that Israel receives the necessary support during this time of conflict, especially after brokering a compromise for emergency aid to the country.

Biden’s approach may result in long-term conflict in the Middle East and further discontent from his left-wing supporters at home.

It may be more effective for Biden to pressure Hamas’s sponsors rather than the group itself to achieve goals of hostage release and a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

Richard Goldberg, a senior adviser at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, warns against Biden’s strategy and calls for a different approach to the situation.
