Critics labeling parents who advocate for the protection of girls’ sports as ‘MAGA’
If you can’t beat them, dismiss them as MAGA.
That appears to be the tactic used by Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine.
An article in the New York Times on Thursday explored the rise of “mean” NYC school parent meetings, highlighting a contentious March session in District 2 in Manhattan.
Parents were gathered to discuss a resolution related to transparency and public review of DOE guidelines, such as transgender students participating in sports teams based on their gender identity.
According to the Times, “several elected officials deemed the discussion ‘disgraceful’.”
The reporter from the Times noted the tension around “issues that don’t neatly align with party politics.” Despite this, Levine framed it as a red vs. blue issue, warning that “the MAGA movement has infiltrated Manhattan.”
I would rephrase the Times’ headline about “mean” meetings to “How New York City politicians became intolerant.” They are intolerant of dissenting views that challenge their far-left ideologies, especially regarding biological boys competing in girls’ sports.
When did raising valid concerns about female safety and fairness become a political issue?
When the opposition lacks logical arguments.
The article also highlighted public school parent Maud Maron, formerly a progressive Democrat, who serves on the District 2 Community Education Council.
“It’s fine to disagree with me, but can’t we have a civil conversation,” asked Maron regarding the city politicians. “Their arguments will crumble, and deep down, they know it.”
Maron’s sole intention was to initiate a discussion about the city’s gender guidelines, which were altered in 2019, replacing “biological sex” with “gender identity.” This change allows individuals who identify as a different gender to participate in sports teams designated for that gender.
During the March meeting, the CEC passed resolution 248, urging NYCPS to form a Gender Guidelines review committee that includes female athletes, parents, coaches, medical professionals, and evolutionary biology experts.
Additionally, it requested the ability to propose amendments.
The horror. An expert panel tasked with examining this unprecedented and controversial practice.
“Girls deserve the right to compete in single-sex sports,” stated Maron, whose daughter participates in public school sports. “It’s a fundamental right, and the majority of Americans support it. Yet, they’re falsely portraying me as a right-wing extremist. I’ve always voted Democrat.”
This is the inconvenient truth for these fervent gender activists.
Individuals who have investigated or reported on transgender issues know this is not solely a partisan matter. Even liberal icon JK Rowling, once highly acclaimed, has faced criticism for her beliefs.
While most rational individuals understand this, the gender ideologues treat their viewpoint as absolute doctrine not subject to scrutiny.
“My party has moved towards extremist views, dismissing women and girls who wish to participate in sports,” Maron expressed.
The city’s schools chancellor David C. Banks questioned, “Can’t we let the kids be kids?”
By stifling this critical conversation, Banks is neglecting the girls. Leaving them voiceless and vulnerable.
Perhaps he and others are disregarding recent reports about the transgender high-school basketball player in Massachusetts who not only caused harm to a female opponent but also behaved inappropriately towards a teammate.
For Banks and Levine, inclusion seems to entail allowing males who identify as females to compete against hard-working females and invade their privacy.
This isn’t an isolated incident.
Levine’s dismissive remarks undermine female athletes, suggesting that voicing concerns will only lead to being labeled as a right-wing extremist — another dissenter to be ignored.
“If a parent or girl witnesses how I am treated, in what scenario would they feel comfortable expressing their concerns?” Maron questioned. “I see no path forward for our girls.”
In the Big Apple, where once feminist symbols were prominent, such as pink pussy hats and “The future is female” shirts, the new reality is to remain silent.
And endure it. Like a man.
