Democrats Thwart Sanctions on the Anti-U.S., Anti-Israel ICC in Reaction to Trump

It’s clear that Democrats are eager to express their discontent with President Trump, but their decision to target Israel — and consequently, Americans — is quite revealing.

This is evident as they move to block the legislation aimed at imposing sanctions on officials at the vehemently anti-American, anti-Israel International Criminal Court.

Notably, many Democrats supported the bill: 45 voted in favor in the House, and some senators were expected to back it as well.

However, their anger towards Trump’s executive actions, particularly the order freezing federal aid, prompted some to publicly announce their “no” votes as a form of protest.

“Donald Trump is making a run to take over all of government,” lamented Sen. Liz Warren (D-Mass.).

“So at this moment, we’re a ‘no’ on this bill and everything else that comes up.”

It’s true that Warren has a history of anti-Israel sentiments, even claiming that Israel has committed “genocide” against Gazans.

Thus, it’s no surprise she’d oppose sanctions on an entity intent on arresting Israel’s leader.

Furthermore, at least three other Democrats — including Sens. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.) and Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.), who both voted for the bill in the House before winning their Senate seats — have also inexplicably changed their stance.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, who claims to oppose “the ICC bias against Israel” and seeks “to drastically reform and reshape” the court, nevertheless rallied fellow Democrats to block the bill.

Schumer offered a feeble excuse: it was “poorly drafted” and could have “many unintended consequences.”

As though that has ever deterred Democrats in the past.

Ultimately, Sen. John Fetterman (Pa.) emerged as the only Democrat to support the bill, which garnered only 54 votes, falling six votes short of the 60 needed to progress.

In summary, Democrats profess to be outraged by the ICC’s aggressive threats to charge Americans with war crimes and imprison Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for retaliating against Hamas’ brutality on October 7 — yet they opted to express their anger at Trump through this.

Or perhaps their Trump-bashing is merely a facade to justify killing the bill and appeasing the critics of Israel?

This certainly appears to be a duplicitous strategy, reminiscent of the tactics Joe Biden has employed on numerous issues.

This approach didn’t yield positive results last fall, and may fare even worse in the future.

Do Democrats truly wish to remain on the political sidelines indefinitely?
