Doubts About Politicized FBI Handling Trump Assassination Inquiry
President Biden announced on Sunday that the Secret Service’s failure to protect Donald Trump at a rally in Butler, Pa., will be investigated by the FBI. He promised that the probe will be “thorough and swift.”
However, expecting a federal law enforcement agency to expose the mistakes of other agencies is naive.
It is more likely that the investigation will follow the familiar DC pattern: admit mistakes, deflect blame to others, and move on.
Congress is also getting involved in the investigation of the Secret Service’s failure in Butler. The House Oversight Committee Chairman has instructed the Secret Service chief to preserve all documents related to the Trump shooting.
Representatives and Senators have called for separate investigations into the Secret Service’s mishandling of the situation. There are concerns about the lack of faith in the FBI’s leadership and the reliability of the investigation process.
Despite this, the White House is asking Americans to trust the FBI, an agency with a controversial track record.
One of the issues with the FBI is its past actions, such as targeting conservative Catholics, using deadly force, and suppressing information that could be damaging to certain individuals or groups.
With the Secret Service already under scrutiny for previous incidents of evidence destruction, the FBI’s thoroughness in investigating this matter is in question.
The Biden administration is urging unity, but transparency and accountability are essential to maintaining trust in our political system.
