For those expressing concern about team Trump’s “intent to dismantle the Department of Education,” it’s important to remember, warns Philip Hamburger at The Wall Street Journal, that “the Ku Klux Klan was among the primary proponents of establishing the department” — making it a specific aim of theirs.

The Klan aimed to ensure every child attended public school as a means to “re-Americanize” society.

They believed that foreign influences and “religious diversity — particularly Catholicism” posed a threat to Protestantism.

Their backing serves as a reminder that federalizing education leads to inevitable homogenization. Centralized authority can stifle innovation, constrain parental freedom, mold the thoughts of emerging voters, and grant the government leverage over public opinion, which is essential for accountability.

The Constitution does not delegate “federal authority over education.” It’s time to “adhere to that principle.”

Mideast Desk: Grant Palestinians Citizenship Somewhere

President Trump recently generated controversy by suggesting that Palestinians leave Gaza. However, Commentary’s Seth Mandel suggests that “less contentious policies could improve the lives of Palestinians” while also “enhancing Israel’s security.”

“Trump should prioritize granting citizenship or at least permanent residency with a pathway to citizenship for the remaining Palestinian refugees from 1948 and their descendants, in countries like Egypt, Lebanon, and Syria.”

To date, only Jordan has integrated Palestinians into its citizenry.

Other Arab nations have intentionally chosen to keep Palestinians as a permanent underclass, leveraging them against Israel while holding onto the promise of their right to return.

“If Trump aims to protect both Israeli and Palestinian lives and maintain peace in the Middle East, he should leverage US influence to terminate the permanent refugee status of Palestinians.”

Libertarian Perspective: USAID’s COVID Response Was Lacking

Regarding the recent pandemic, Reason’s Christian Britschgi argues, “it’s accurate to say that USAID’s pandemic prevention initiatives were ineffective.”

The agency’s programs designed to forecast and mitigate global virus outbreaks failed to identify COVID-19. Additionally, these initiatives funneled millions to EcoHealth Alliance and its subgrantee, the Wuhan Institute of Virology, both of which are crucial players in the theory that COVID-19 originated from a laboratory incident.

“Musk’s assertion that USAID funded ‘bioweapons research’ might be exaggerated, but” there are valid reasons to be skeptical about completely dismissing that possibility.

Many individuals who may not support Trump nonetheless applaud his efforts to reform the FBI “due to their greater disdain” for the agency, notes Christian Parenti at UnHerd.

“My father faced FBI scrutiny for opposing the Vietnam War and American imperialism, and the agency has an extensive history of falsely framing individuals and undermining progressive movements.”

However, “since reclaiming power, Trump has removed numerous officials from the FBI and Department of Justice.”

If confirmed, his nominee for the FBI, Kash Patel, intends to refocus the agency on “solving everyday crimes,” contrasting sharply with the politically charged actions that have turned much of the country against it.

Progressives “who understand their FBI history should align with the Trump faction in this struggle.”

From the Right: Democrats Persist in Missteps

Indicating that Democrats remain unlearned from their past defeat, “gun control advocate and social media figure David Hogg was elected vice chairman of the Democratic National Committee,” criticizes Kimberly Ross from the Washington Examiner.

It’s not merely that “Hogg’s image is radical”; Democrats in Congress are resorting to “Nazi” rhetoric against President Trump and his supporters while threatening “Articles of Impeachment.”

The party is still “holding onto the language that contributed to their significant loss.”

These “leftist narratives and foolishness” will not secure midterm success; Democrats must “diverge from the path they seem determined to maintain” or “they will only have themselves to blame.”
