FEMA’s entire hurricane relief budget was used to assist migrants: Opinions

The Problem: FEMA’s Inadequate Allocation of Funds to Hurricane Helene Victims Due to the Migrant Crisis.

Another reason not to support Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming presidential election (“Sorry, Wrong Victims,” Editorial, Oct. 4).

As the second-in-command, she bears direct responsibility for the border crisis and the subsequent allocation of funds to migrants, while victims of Hurricane Helene suffer and the nation grapples with other challenges like inflation.

FEMA seems to have no relief funds available except for migrants.

So why should my 100-year-old grandmother, a US citizen, be without electricity or hot water due to Hurricane Helene?

Even the local electric company is attempting to restore power without federal assistance, indicating that American citizens are no longer a priority.

I criticized President George W. Bush in 2005 for his inadequate response to Hurricane Katrina. I must now criticize Harris for her similarly inadequate response to Hurricane Helene.

Merely showing up at FEMA’s headquarters in Washington, DC after attending a celebrity fundraiser in Los Angeles as the tragedy unfolded is not sufficient. Shameful.

Prior to Hurricane Helene, some Georgia Republican representatives in the House voted against funding FEMA for preparation.

Therefore, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp should understand that FEMA funds are stretched thin and must be distributed accordingly.

While I agree that Harris should redirect more funds to Hurricane Helene, it’s noteworthy that The Post focuses on millions allocated to migrants and not the billions in military aid given to Israel.

With the money provided to Israel, we could have assisted not only those affected by Helene but also those impacted by disasters like the one in Hawaii. This appears to divert attention from the billions supporting war crimes in Gaza.

The Problem: Accusations of Doug Emhoff Assaulting His Former Girlfriend in 2012.

This accusation reflects poorly on Kamala Harris’ judgment (“Left is all #MeToo unless it’s #Democrat,” Kirsten Fleming, Oct. 3).

Her marriage to Doug Emhoff highlights her failure in spouse vetting. His alleged actions, such as impregnating the nanny and facing new violence allegations, speak volumes about his character.

Furthermore, the revelations about Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz’s record and performance in the vice presidential debate underscore Harris’ oversight in vetting VP candidates.

Harris should be judged by the individuals she associates with and rejected by voters promptly. Our country cannot endure further consequences of her poor judgment.
