Gavin Newsom Moves Away from Woke Politics and Embraces Political Realism

California Governor Gavin Newsom, previously regarded as the epitome of progressive values, has now . . . woken up.

He has launched a new podcast as a clear strategy to amplify his voice leading up to his anticipated 2028 presidential campaign.

One of his initial guests was conservative figure Charlie Kirk, a prominent supporter of Trump.

During their conversation, Newsom acknowledged that it is “deeply unfair” for biological men to compete against women in sports and expressed concern that “We [meaning Democrats] are losing . . . We’re toast.”

This shift comes after Newsom’s notable change regarding his state’s cooperation with ICE for the deportation of criminal illegal immigrants, which included his promise to veto a bill that would complicate collaboration with the agency.

For those who have tracked Newsom’s journey, this marks a significant transformation: He has been one of the loudest advocates for progressive policies concerning immigration, gender issues, crime, and more.

Yet now he appears to be paying attention to voter sentiments on these topics.

True, his motivations may be tied to his calculations for the 2028 election, and it certainly took a devastating wildfire to shake up his political influence.

Nevertheless, he’s finally grasped the situation; this denotes progress. Welcome to reality, Gavin.

Other prominent Democrats are similarly aligning themselves with this forward-thinking approach, even absent the blunt political strategy, with Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman being a prime example.

Fetterman’s evolution from a conventional progressive to one of the more rational Democrats in Congress began when he was among the first to recognize that Trump was not Hitler and that he might have had valid points.

The events of October 7 clearly prompted a realization for him: he publicly criticized the extensive dysfunction within his party.

Today, he stands as a solitary advocate for a rational left in a Senate where most Democrats seem preoccupied with empty Trump bashing and submissive gestures toward anti-Semitic sentiments, radical racists, and socialists.

Fetterman’s journey has led him to align with Newsom.

This raises an intriguing, albeit far-fetched, notion: Could he be a potential vice-presidential candidate for the California governor (or whoever winds up leading the ticket)?

Let’s not overlook the fact that with Newsom’s shift, a broader space has opened for other thoughtful Democrats to follow suit.
