George Clooney Compares Biden to George Washington: Correspondence
The Issue: George Clooney’s comments on President Biden’s decision to drop out of the 2024 race.
George Clooney is praising President Biden for his decision to step out of the 2024 race, but it seems like he might have forgotten a few key details. Clooney compared Biden’s move to George Washington’s decision not to run for a third term, but is this truly a selfless act deserving of such high praise (“Clooney’s new spin on Joe go,” Sept. 2)?
Could Biden be the next face on Mount Rushmore, as Clooney seems to suggest?
It’s interesting to note that Clooney previously publicly called for a new nominee to replace Biden, citing his ineffectiveness as a candidate. It seems like there might be more to this story than meets the eye.
Clooney and the Democratic establishment seemed to have panicked after a debate with former President Donald Trump.
Biden didn’t just “agree” to step down – he was essentially forced out.
It’s clear that Clooney is trying to paint Biden as a hero for his decision, but the reality might be more complicated than he lets on. The Democrats may have given Biden an ultimatum: withdraw from the race voluntarily or face the 25th amendment.

Clooney seems to be deflecting from his own involvement in Biden’s exit by praising him for a “George Washington performance.”
The truth is far from heroic. The Democrats likely made Biden an offer he couldn’t refuse: step down voluntarily, or be removed by force using the 25th amendment.

Clooney’s comparison of Biden to George Washington falls flat, as Biden didn’t willingly step aside – he was pushed out by party officials. This is a far cry from Washington’s selfless decision to step down from power.

Clooney’s attempt to paint Biden as a hero for dropping out of the ’24 race is misleading. Biden was essentially removed from the ticket against his will, reminiscent of old-school political tactics.
Trying to make Biden seem like a George Washington figure is a stretch at best.

The Issue: Governor Tim Walz’s brother criticizing the Democratic VP candidate’s politics.
Jeff Walz isn’t holding back when it comes to his brother, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, and his politics (“Oh, Brother,” Sept. 1)
Tim, a former soldier (though not as illustrious as he claims), allowed Minneapolis to be destroyed in the chaotic summer of 2020. He turned a blind eye as the city burned and buildings were destroyed, including a police precinct.
This isn’t behavior befitting a soldier.

It’s always sad to see familial conflicts play out in public, and the rift between Tim and Jeff Walz is no exception.
For every famous sibling feud like Liam and Noel Gallagher of Oasis, there are countless others like Tim and Jeff Walz.
One can’t help but think of the infamous conflict between Michael and Fredo Corleone when considering the divide between the Walz brothers.
Thankfully, real-life brothers often find a way to reconcile their differences in a more peaceful manner than their fictional counterparts.
