Homeland Security boss’ border bunk, Randi’s revisionism

Diary of disturbing disinformation and dangerous delusions

This Claim:

“The border is secure.”

— Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, Wednesday

We say: No wonder Republicans like Rep. Mark Green (Tenn.) want to impeach Mayorkas.

Asked if he stands by his assertions that the southern border is “secure,” Mayorkas quadrupled down, claiming it is — even as The Post reported thousands of migrants being waved in, overrunning shelters in places like El Paso, Texas.

Mayorkas’ denial is telling: President Biden’s open-border policy is so destructive, his Homeland Security boss has to lie about it. Repeatedly.

This Tweet:

We say: Bad enough Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot downplayed the violent riot in her city last weekend, insisting teens just wanted to “enjoy” the “weather.”

And that Mayor-elect Brandon Johnson defended the marauders, claiming they’d been “starved of opportunities.”

But what on earth made Chicago state Sen. Robert Peters think the madness had anything to do with politics, “poverty” or “segregation”?

This headline:

“MAGA Republicans are destroying our public schools.”

— AFT boss Randi Weingarten’s USA Today column, April 13

We say: Ha!

If anyone’s destroying public education it’s Weingarten and her teachers unions.

They block efforts to fire bad teachers or pay good ones more. They fought for medically needless school closures during COVID, spurring historic learning loss.

They ram through left-wing political views and curricula (critical race theory, transgender programs for too-young kids) over parents’ objections.

All of that has boosted the school-choice movement — and that’s what Weingarten fears most: Americans fed up with the unions’ destructive monopoly.

This response:

“It’s insulting to black people. It’s insulting to me as an African American.”

— CNN host Don Lemon, Tuesday

We say: What got Lemon peeved? GOP prez hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy’s claim that “we have equality before the law” for blacks and whites.

That’s right: Lemon essentially denied that blacks have “secured” many freedoms and rights since the Civil War and civil-rights movement, arguing instead that they “still aren’t allowed to enjoy the freedoms as well in this country.”

Please: America isn’t perfect, but of course blacks have made progress.

Indeed, under some affirmative-action programs, they arguably enjoy more rights than whites.

This accusation:

“Republicans should not be holding hostage our nation.”

— WH Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, Tuesday

We say: Jean-Pierre contends Republicans have taken America “hostage” by refusing to raise the debt ceiling without a slowdown in out-of-control spending.

But isn’t President Biden just as responsible by insisting on no slowdown?

He wants the debt ceiling raised with no conditions attached.

Yet what’s the point of a ceiling if it’s to be raised automatically?
