If Biden becomes the President, Kamala will be in office as Vice President.

The Democratic Party is currently faced with division.

There are those who wish to replace the presidential candidate who was selected by over 14 million Democratic primary voters.

On the other side, there are those who support keeping the presidential candidate who is unlikely to complete a full four-year term, leading to an unelected president and vice president taking over.

Regardless, the party believes it is standing up for democracy in either scenario.

While Joe Biden is the democratically chosen presidential nominee of the Democratic Party, it is also evident that his health issues were not disclosed to the public. If he were to enter a fair nomination contest now, he would likely lose.

The current situation with President Biden, who is increasingly frail, was a crisis waiting to happen, and now that it has come to the forefront, there is no easy solution.

One could describe the campaign to push Biden out of the race as an attempted intra-party coup.

Despite the fact that voters knew Biden was 81 years old when they voted for him, the party infrastructure limited their options and shut down any opposition, leaving them with Biden as the only viable choice.

For donors, pundits, and elected officials to try and overturn this decision is undemocratic.

The lack of democracy becomes even more apparent when considering that a small group of individuals, like Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer, have the power to push Biden out of the race.

Leaving Biden in his current state is also not ideal, as it is clear he may not be able to fulfill the demands of the presidency for a full term.

This means that the election in November will effectively be to make Kamala Harris the president within the next term, without her having to go through the scrutiny and responsibility of running for president herself.

While her presidency would be constitutional, it does not serve Harris or the country well to have her assume the role without directly winning the office.

All of this could have been avoided if Joe and Jill Biden had decided earlier that he wasn’t fit for another presidency. This would have allowed for an open primary with a diverse field of candidates.

Unfortunately, the Bidens chose a different path, leaving uncertainty about the current president’s health and ability to lead effectively.

Defending democracy is a complex and challenging task.
