Is Israel Succumbing to White House Pressure in Gaza? Iran Might Think So

President Biden recently hinted at potentially cutting off US support for Israel, and just 72 hours later, the Israeli military announced its withdrawal from southern Gaza, marking the six-month anniversary of the Oct. 7 massacre.

While some view this as a response to pressure from the White House to end the campaign against Hamas prematurely, Israeli officials claim that it is part of a planned rest period for its largest division after months of intense fighting in Khan Younis.

What concerns Jerusalem the most, however, is how its enemies interpret these actions, from Tehran to Beirut to the tunnels under Rafah where Hamas leaders are hiding.

Despite recent focus on a tragic mistaken Israeli strike on an aid convoy, Israeli military and intelligence officials are more concerned about the potential for escalation with Iran and Hezbollah, who pose greater threats than Hamas in Gaza.

Given Iran’s control over terrorism in the region, Israel is navigating a complex geopolitical landscape and requires US support more than ever.

Iran, a major state sponsor of terrorism, has been orchestrating attacks across the Middle East while advancing its nuclear weapons program amidst global distractions.

With tensions rising, Israel recently targeted senior Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps leaders in Damascus, further exacerbating the situation.

Israel must now balance tactical decisions in Gaza with the strategic threats posed by Iran and Hezbollah, requiring strong US support.
