Joe Biden Remains Misguided About His Legacy
President Biden has persistently held the belief that he will be regarded as a remarkable leader in history, and he remains steadfast in that conviction until the very end.
In a recent “exit” interview with Susan Page, Washington Bureau chief for USA Today, Biden reflected on the past four years full of continuous absurdities.
Whether it’s a result of his declining faculties, the insulated environment of the White House, his enduring aspirations to be more than an extraordinarily fortunate political figure, or a combination of all three is up for debate.
Amusingly, he reiterated his assertion that he could have triumphed over Donald Trump in the last election, had his own party not sidelined him.
“The polling” supposedly indicated it, he stated.
What polling?
The data that indicated his chances dropping after the June debate?
The polls that concluded that only 24% of Americans viewed him as “mentally sharp”?
He may have been misled by someone he trusted; perhaps he is deceiving himself; or maybe he simply chooses to ignore the truths.
We are rapidly approaching the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump after he delivered a historic defeat to Democrats, yet Biden has failed to acknowledge even a glimmer of reality in the self-aggrandizing narrative he has crafted.
Biden wouldn’t have triumphed in a contest against Trump — remaining in the race likely would have resulted in Democrats losing numerous additional seats in Congress.
Democratic leaders were aware of this, Democratic voters understood it; seemingly everyone knew this except Biden.
Yet his self-deception runs even deeper: When asked what aspects of his legacy will “endure,” Biden replied: “I hope that history says that I came in and I had a plan how to restore the economy and reestablish America’s leadership in the world . . . And I hope it records that I did it with honesty and integrity.”
Any historical account that asserts that will belong in the realm of fiction.
Biden’s initiatives hindered the economy, stunting job and wage growth while driving inflation to record levels with one massive stimulus bill after another.
His vulnerability encouraged Russia to invade Ukraine and Iran to unleash its affiliates against Israel.
He allowed China to exploit our weaknesses through surveillance balloons, cyberattacks, and espionage.
He significantly undermined America’s standing on the global stage.
His legacy will be that he left his party, his nation, and the world worse off than when he assumed office.
Regarding “honesty and integrity,” he disregarded both by spending his entire presidency concealing his rapidly declining mental state from the public and falsely asserting the border was secure, not to mention going back on his word regarding pardoning his influence-peddling, tax-evading son Hunter on his way out.
Biden has told many untruths throughout his political career, but perhaps none are more implausible than the one he has created for himself — that he was a good president.
The voters were mistaken.
The polls were inaccurate.
Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, and Barack Obama were wrong.
In Biden’s perspective, he wasn’t given his due recognition during his tenure, but history will see him as the second coming of FDR.
He’s fully embraced that fantasy without reservation.
As his presidential term comes to a close, it appears he is the sole individual who believes it.
