Joe Biden’s apparent cognitive challenges raise questions about whether a 2024 presidential run would be fair to him
President Biden’s decline during a recent speech was evident and cringe-worthy. He visited Pueblo, Colo., to highlight the world’s largest wind-tower factory and tout the creation of “green” jobs to improve his low approval ratings on the economy. Unfortunately, he couldn’t resist ad-libbing disastrously during his speech.
His attempts at humor, including a joke about the nuclear “football” and a borderline-racist comment to the South Korean corporate plant owners, fell flat. He also made other mistakes, such as referring to “Congressman Trump” and telling a story about Deng Xiaoping that actually featured Xi Jinping, the current president of China.
This decline has led to calls for a new Democratic candidate for the next presidential election, as Biden’s public appearances have been marred by frequent mishaps. The party establishment remains loyal to Biden, but most Democrats are eager for a change. It’s time for Democrats to find a new candidate who is capable of meeting the basic expectations of the job.
