Kathy Hochul of New York Should Move Beyond ‘Resistance’ Theater and Focus on Governance
Governor Kathy Hochul of New York is once again touting her stance as a leader of the RESISTANCE.
“Once the first strike comes against us, you know we’re going to retaliate fiercely, and I will be at the forefront of the resistance against measures that directly harm New Yorkers,” she proclaimed on NPR regarding President Donald Trump’s attempt to halt her congestion-pricing tax scheme.
Such claims are exaggerated: Many more New Yorkers likely feel the impact of her tolls than are affected by Trump’s efforts to eliminate them.
Moreover, the indecisive Hochul appears ridiculous attempting to present herself as a bold anti-Trump figure, especially in a hilariously over-the-top Rambo-themed campaign advertisement.
Prior to that, she claimed her relationship with Trump was one of a pragmatic diplomat.
“I’ve been repeatedly asked, ‘Are you leading the resistance?’ — No, I’m governing our great state of New York,” Hochul stated to reporters at the time.
In reality, it’s all just posturing, which seems to characterize the approach of this governor.
She utters whatever she believes will win her immediate approval and bolster her lackluster approval ratings — for instance, 57% of state voters indicated in last month’s Siena poll that they would prefer a different candidate for governor in 2026.
This has made her attempts to display “righteous anger” seem even more absurd.
If she were sincere, her position would be dramatically misaligned with what voters seek: Trump convincingly won the presidential election and gained unprecedented support in New York state and city by openly rejecting the progressive policies Hochul seems to advocate.
Voters are not in favor of rising crime rates, unchecked illegal immigration, and soaring prices.
Hochul (and any other Democrats still engaged in Resistance theatrics) needs to come to terms with the fact that Trump won.
The governor could simply take a more mature approach and focus on steering New York back on course.
However, it is evident that her true interests lie in empty rhetoric and political maneuvering rather than effective governance.
