Kathy Hochul politicizes slain NYC cop’s wake: Readers weigh in

The Topic: Gov. Hochul’s Controversial Presence at NYPD Det. Jonathan Diller’s Wake

Is Gov. Hochul lacking in shame (“Hochul gets an earful at cop service,” March 30)?

After her obvious public relations visit to the wake of NYPD Det. Jonathan Diller, purportedly slain by a repeat offender, Hochul audaciously expressed her understanding of the family’s anger.
Her statement might be one of the most hypocritical from a public figure recently.
This governor has contributed to expanding the rights of violent criminals, to the detriment of law enforcement. Instead of publicity stunts, Hochul should prioritize safeguarding the safety of police and first responders.

Once again, Hochul is too little, too late. While she did attend Diller’s wake, she consistently failed to show up in Albany to push for a bill reversing the nonsensical laws that allow repeat offenders to roam free.

However, Hochul’s appearance at the wake shouldn’t be surprising. After all, it’s an election year.

I can’t help but wonder how swiftly bail laws and police defunding policies would change if a member of Gov. Hochul’s or Attorney General Letitia James’s family fell victim to a violent crime.

There were reports suggesting Gov. Hochul was asked to leave during Diller’s wake, although she denied it.

What was her intention in attending the service? Was she looking to overshadow former President Donald Trump with her visit?

Hochul and her team demonstrate their lack of touch by assuming the governor would be welcomed there. Apparently, no one on her team thought to send a representative to inquire with the family.

The recent murder of a New York police detective has revealed the true character of our leaders.

Hochul and her Democratic colleagues cannot escape the reality that their progressive policies have not progressed our society and have sown chaos and despair across the nation. It is evident that the Dems are incapable of rectifying the mess they’ve created in our state and country.
I hope that on Nov. 5, the American people can begin rectifying it themselves by retiring President Biden.

Considering her stance on crime, Gov. Hochul deserved the rebuke she received outside Diller’s wake last Friday.

President Biden’s fundraising event at Radio City Music Hall, where he appeared alongside former Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, was likely planned weeks in advance. Hundreds of wealthy donors from across the nation came to the city for the event (“Utter Dem gall-a as NYC mourned,” April 1).

Yet Miranda Devine believes the event should have been canceled due to the wake of slain Det. Jonathan Diller on Long Island the same day. She also commends former President Trump for attending the service.

I have little doubt that if Biden attended the funeral or wake, Devine would criticize him for disrupting the solemn occasion with his large security detail and for using it as a campaign photo opportunity — which is exactly what Trump did.

Can Miranda Devine be any more of a Trump loyalist?

Trump attends the detective’s wake for a photo op, and The Post praises him. Michael Goodwin — another Trump supporter — wrote an article praising the former president, with a caption calling Trump the “Consoler in Chief.”

Trump seized the moment to attend, and on Friday, he was there, grinning for the camera.
It’s absurd that this individual was allowed in. Biden’s fundraising event was planned long before the tragic incident involving the police detective. Once again, The Post misses the mark.
