Katie Couric’s criticism of MAGA voters likened to Hillary’s “deplorables” 2.0
Katie Couric is channeling her inner Hillary Clinton.
While guesting on Bill Maher’s “Club Random” podcast, journalist Couric said support for former President Donald Trump was driven by “anti-intellectualism,” then went on to imply MAGA voters were “jealous” and “resentful.”
Hasn’t the left has learned anything since Hillary’s similar comments bombed spectacularly eight years ago?
During the 2016 presidential race, then-candidate Clinton called “half” of Trump’s supporters “racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic” and sought to dump them into her “basket of deplorables.”
Americans responded at the polls.
Indeed, it was precisely this kind of arrogant, “we’re-smart, you’re-dumb” elitism that helped get Trump elected.
The media and establishment Dems plainly think of themselves as the erudite “adults in the room,” while Republicans are backward, hateful, uneducated rednecks.
Have they looked at the polls lately?
Black and Latino voters are fleeing to Trump, as are young voters — demographics that Democrats used to have locked down tight.
These are not exactly the caricature of MAGA supporters liberals imagine.
They can pretend Trump voters are all driven by jealousy and resentment, or they can look at the facts: The border crisis has exploded, grocery prices are sky high, war seems to be everywhere and crime has been making blue cities unlivable.
Voters know who to blame for this (hint: it ain’t Trump).
They spent the pandemic listening to Dems shriek “trust the experts,” yet it soon became clear most high-profile experts had no idea what they were talking about.
Distrusting Democrats who insist you “follow the science” (their science) to grab power is not “anti-intellectualism.”
Trump, by contrast, embraced Average Joes tired of the status quo and made clear he was proud to be associated with them.
Democrats can learn what’s really driving these voters, or they can keep insulting them.
Trump will no doubt thank them in November if they choose the latter.
