Left Attempts to Mislead Voters on Joe Biden’s Fitness; Media Questions Kamala Harris’s Role as Border Czar and More
Chronicle of Alarming Deceptions and Hazardous Misbeliefs
As the presidential campaigns unfolded and President Biden made a historic, last-minute withdrawal, 2024 became notorious for a barrage of fibs, deceptions, gaslighting, and astonishing remarks.
Below are our selections for the most egregious examples.
— Compiled by The Post Editorial Board
#1
“[Biden’s] sharp as a tack.”
— Numerous media sources and prominent leftists over the year
We say: President Biden himself contradicted that notion during his debate against Donald Trump.
It appears he was so “sharp” that his own party compelled him to exit the race.
#2
“She wasn’t the border czar.”
— ABC’s Jon Karl, Aug. 11
We say: Ironically, just a year prior, Karl explained that Biden “assigned Kamala Harris to play a vital role in curbing the influx of migrants at the border.”
#3
“We’ve seen grocery prices come down over the past year or more.”
— WH Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, Aug. 30
We say: If Jean-Pierre observed prices decreasing, she must’ve been upside down—because they actually increased.
At rates not seen in decades.
#4
“Those [pro-Hamas protesters] down the street, they have a point.”
— President Biden at the Democratic convention, Aug. 19
We say: No, they don’t. Pro-terror demonstrators are irrational, ethically reprehensible individuals.
Biden’s comment was utterly unacceptable.
#5
“We have . . . young black children growing up in The Bronx who don’t even know what the word ‘computer’ is.”
— Gov. Hochul, May 6
We say: As The Post’s Adam B. Coleman highlighted at the time, this was not merely a slip but “a glimpse into the perspective of many mainstream elitist Democrats” — even if the governor later retracted her foolish remark.
#6
“Kamala Harris is defying the laws of the political universe.”
— Politico, Aug. 13
We say: Hmm: The results from November indicated she was not so much defying political norms but rather being shielded by media that ignores reality.
#7
“Precedent by a court doesn’t matter anymore in this country. . . . People violate laws anytime they want.”
— Pa. Democratic County Commissioner Diane Ellis-Marseglia, Nov. 14
We say: Democrats often proclaim their commitment to democracy, yet when Republican Dave McCormick narrowly defeated Pennsylvania Democratic Senator Bob Casey, Dems like Ellis-Marseglia attempted to count ballots the state’s top court had disqualified on two separate occasions to overturn the outcome.
What hypocrisy.
#8
“We have been enforcing the law from Day 1.”
— DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, May 21
We say: The results from November illustrate that Mayorkas’ blatant lies regarding border enforcement couldn’t mislead all the people all the time.
#9
“Republicans want to kill your kids.”
— Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin, Nov. 19
We say: Instead of accepting the November outcomes, Trump opponents like Rubin escalated their hyperbolic fearmongering in a frantic attempt to hinder the incoming president’s initiatives.
#10
“Allowing Trump to hold an event at MSG is equivalent to the infamous Nazi rally at Madison Square Garden on February 20, 1939.”
— State Sen. Brad Hoylman-Sigal, in an Oct. 9 tweet
We say: It is ironic that Hoylman-Sigal’s demand to silence his opposition ironically mirrors actions reminiscent of Hitler’s Germany.
#11
“I took action to make our subways safer . . . [Now] crime is going down, and ridership is going up.”
— Gov. Hochul, Sunday
We say: On the same day a suspected undocumented immigrant fatally torched a woman on the F train, the governor chose to boast about her “successful” efforts to combat subway crime. Talk about being out of touch!
#12
“We have a real contrast to be made — what I did in four years and what’s going to happen in the next four years.”
— President Biden, Dec. 18
We say: For once, we concur! Biden & Co. mishandled every situation, from the border to the economy to foreign relations.
No president, including Trump, could inflict such widespread damage.
#13
“I ask you to remember the context in which you exist.” [Cackle, cackle.]
— VP Kamala Harris, Dec. 17
We say: Harris’ nonsensical remarks significantly contributed to her defeat, yet that hasn’t deterred her from producing more such absurdities. We are fortunate that America dodged a bullet.
#14
“A full moon . . . is made up mostly of gases.”
— Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, April 9
We say: Huh? Everyone knows the moon is primarily made of cheese.
