Leftists Acknowledge Their Policies Will Lead to More Victims, Yet Remain Indifferent

Five consecutive days of violent incidents in the subway: Welcome to the world that progressives intentionally fashioned.

From the knife attack at an L station on Sunday night to the Thursday morning stabbing of an off-duty MTA worker on a Bronx platform, this wave of violence follows the tragic pre-Christmas arson-murder of Debrina Kawam and includes the Tuesday incident where someone was miraculously not fatally shoved onto the tracks in Manhattan.

The descent into chaos underground is a predictable outcome of “social justice” policies.

Take Kamel Hawkins, 23, who is charged with second-degree assault and attempted murder after pushing a random commuter in front of an oncoming 1 train.

No surprises here: His lengthy criminal history includes a 2019 attack on a police officer, along with multiple charges for assault, harassment, and possession of weapons from October, plus a 2020 case where a judge inexplicably released him without bail, despite prosecutors seeking remand.

Continue to let violent offenders roam free, and the violence will escalate — yet progressives assert that leniency towards criminals is paramount, even over the safety of innocent lives.

They’ve admitted this before.

Back in 2007, Milwaukee District Attorney John Chisholm, a pioneer of radical “reform” prosecutors, stated: “Is there going to be an individual I divert, or I put into a treatment program, who’s going to go out and kill somebody? You bet. Guaranteed. It’s guaranteed to happen. It does not invalidate the overall approach.”

Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg and the New York state legislators behind the “criminal justice reforms” might not articulate it as openly, but their calculations are similar.

So are those making the moral case for allowing dangerously mentally ill individuals to go untreated, or for permitting millions of undocumented migrants — including rapists, murderers, and gang members — to enter the country unchecked.

“Enforcing the law” is viewed as an intrinsically evil, white-supremacist initiative that must be dismantled; those who suffer robbery, assault, or homicide in the process are seen as collateral damage.

Debrina Kawam, at 57, was reportedly homeless and battling mental health issues — exactly the type of vulnerable individual that progressives claim to support, even though their notion of “support” leaves these individuals stranded on the streets.

Moreover, her alleged killer was another so-called “victim”: An undocumented migrant taking advantage of the Biden administration’s open border policy and de Blasio’s expansive sanctuary mandates.

The ongoing surge of subway violence is not only predictable but also foreseen as a direct result of the progressive refusal to combat fare evasion, which serves as the “gateway drug” of subway crime.

This needless, bloody turmoil won’t cease until this harmful ideology is dismissed at all levels of governance.
